Christmas Traditions

We had a wonderful Christmas. We stayed home this year which is our favorite thing to do. We love being in our own home with our children with our own family traditions.

We always make sugar cookies on Christmas Eve for Santa.

A tradition that comes from Eric's family is reading and acting out the Nativity (costumes and all). Presents on Christmas morning. Santa brought us lots, and lots of legos this year!

Tyler got "real Tools!!!"

And we can't forget faithful George.

This is what happens when you cancel church!!

Press the pause button on the music before you press the play button on this video otherwise you will miss the audio. Alex's voice is in the background asking for a cookie.

Who needs a sled. Tyler certainly doesn't.

Besides even if you were connected well enough to get a Federal bailout loan you couldn't buy one in Western Washington.

Early Vacation

So who's idea was the snow? My kids have been so excited. We had to go sledding of course. We are lucky enough have this fantastic park right behind our house. Even when we weren't sledding it was fun to watch all the kids at the park. Jared and Tyler were eager from the start.

It took Alex an extra day. Before he would give it a try. And that's only after I told him he had been before and liked it.

The fun ended though when Jared flew off the end of the ramp and landed on his head. But there is nothing wrong with starting vacation off with a slight concussion right?

I thought our house looked beautiful in the snow and for the benefit of those of you far away. This is our home.

Books

Friends I need books. I love to read but I haven't anything new these days. I am rereading all my old favorites. I would love something new. What's out there? What do you like? I need some ideas.

The Christmas Tree

We took the boys on Saturday to get our tree. I have always cut one down and it is one of my favorite "traditions" of Christmas. We are lucky to have a beautiful tree farm here in Oak Harbor. The boys had their picture taken with "Santa". Then we took our time finding the perfect tree. I was having a great time but all of my boys (Eric included) were finished so we went back to one of the first trees we had seen. Jared had carried the saw and wanted so bad to help cut the tree down. After letting the boys play in the hay stacks and drink hot cider we headed home. After church on Sunday I hung the lights and let the boys decorate the tree all by themselves. They spent about an hour hanging ornaments and making new ones out of construction paper. Jared managed to get a paper star to the top of our 8 foot tree without help. I am still unsure how he did this. But before I could get a picture of the finished tree..... it toppled over. Splat. Of course there was already water in the base so Eric lifted up the tree, I am grabbed towels to mop up water and the boys grabbed the ornaments. We got things cleaned up and the tree up and... over it goes again. So third time lucky I guess because we pushed it back in place. And for the last 18 hours things have been quite. I thought it was hilarious, Eric didn't seem to find as much humor in it. But at least it makes a good story. Too bad I missed a picture of the tree on the floor, somehow in all the chaos everything went too fast.

A Great Weekend!

We had a great Thanksgiving weekend. It was full of family and fun! We went bowling, roller skating, biking, played at the park and all with more food than you can imagine. We are truly grateful for your families. For their love and their friendship.

Tyler's Thanksgiving Feast!

I found these a few years ago in the Family Fun Magazine. Tyler could not wait to take them to him Thanksgiving Feast at preschool!

***Someone asked What are they? You take a shortbread cookie the one that is stripped with chocolate on one side and chocolate on the other (Kebler makes them) a marshmallow that you cover in chocolate, then take frosting and pipe the square on to make it look like a Pilgrim hat. They looked really cute up close. They were a big hit with a bunch of 4 year olds!!
