Even Money
Any body interested in a pool for the time of the blessed event?
Linda's doctor has us scheduled to check into the hospital at 7:00 a.m. on Monday morning to start the inducement process. We figure that since it worked so well on the last two that we might as well go for the hat trick. Based on past performances we should have a healthy little girl either late tuesday or early wednesday morning.
We were thinking about starting a pool. Entrance fee is a dollar for each increment of 10 minutes. Closest time slot wins in a winner take all event. I was thinking about setting up a Paypal payment system to let you all buy a time slot but figure it would be easier to collect the money and give you betting slip at church on Sunday. Just stop by primary and get your name on the list ( cash only please). A word of caution however, the book maker is well known for cheating and fixing the game.
In the meantime, after 7 years of living in the area we have finally made it to the Donut House in Anacortes. Nothing spectacular, unless you like fresh donuts the size of dinner plates.
Have a great day:)

Lake Padden
Contrary to popular belief I do not purposely try to look like a dork wearing a full body neoprene suit. But if I could find a wetsuit with a superman logo on the front side I would definitely be buying it. (thanks aspen)

Russ and I got our hats handed to us at the Lake Padden Triathlon last week. I finished 18th out of 25 with a time of 2:05:45. That's pathetic!

The guy who won the race was in my age group and finished in 1 hour 33 minutes. Which means he ran about a 5.5 minute mile and biked about 24mph and did a roughly 1:15/100meter swim. That is world class!! I can't do any of things on their own let alone combine them in a triathlon.
Oh well, at least I didn't get passed by fat chicks, old codgers, break any toes or suffer debilitating injuries during the race (it has been known to happen). I did drop my sunglasses on the last turn after hitting a bump in the road but Linda wasn't too upset to see the $4.00 yellow construction OSHA approved safety glasses go by the wayside.

I didn't pay attention to my fluids consumption during the bike and ended up with severe post race dehydration later that afternoon. I would rather listen to my neighbors puny little rat dogs yap at 5:00 in the morning than deal with the cramps, headaches, sweating, hot flashes etc that goes along with severe dehydration. It is not a lot of fun to be so dehydrated that it makes you sick to drink water. Note to self, when you bring two bottles on the bike leg and plan to drink both, DO IT.
I have caught myself staring at the Coeur d'Alene full distance Ironman race 2010 registration this last week. About the only thing holding me back is the $550 registration fee. Linda says it would be more fun to sign up for Ironman New Zealand.
Anybody interested in a casual workout this week? The schedule has about 75 miles of biking, 3 miles of swimming and about 20 miles of running. The race events are fun and the training is therapeutic but it is the fans that make it worthwhile. Check out the video.

Boys Belong in the Woods
On Monday and Tuesday of last week the boys, my nephew Roman Daves and the Wagner crew ventured into the great wild.
Tyler led the way with a crushing load consisting of socks, underwear and snacks.
Jared did his best to impersonate a self propelled backpack. The pack looks huge but it really wasn't that heavy. Clothes, a sleeping bag and snacks.
My nephew Roman gets the prize for the best garage sale on Tuesday morning (stuff everywhere) but for a 13 year old boy scout he does pretty good out in the woods on his own. We went through his pack on Sunday night and made a few minor corrections from what his mother told him to bring. I am quoting here, "My Mom looked at the weather forecast and said I didn't need to bring a jacket. I usually bring one but my Mom said it was going to be hot." We added a jacket to his packet.
We were glad to bring Roman with us though as he was the supply source for the backpacker's favorite nutrition source, candy. I was beginning to think that Roman was actually a marketing tool for the sugar industry as more and more candy came out of his backpack. Make sure that you notice the special headpiece in the photo below.
Here are a couple of random shots.
This is where Travis Wagner fell in the creek and was rescued by his father which resulted in one pair of fire melted boots, one pair of socks with holes(again from the fire) and some smoke roasted blue jeans (which are not quite as good as smoke roasted almonds but are a close second).
A great time was had by all.
By the way we went to Sulphide Camp in the North Cascades National Park. Parking at the end of the Baker lake road you hike up the Baker River trail, not to be confused with the Baker lake trail, about 2.6 miles. It is a nice easy hike with no appreciable elevation change. It is a good day hike or an excellent first overnighter. Since the elevation is so low (~700ft) it is one of the few, possibly only, backcountry sites that the NCNP will allow fires. It stays snow free most of the year and is a nice place to go in as early as march or as late as november. There is not much of a view but it is a very pleasant camp.
I would like to go into Anderson lakes around the end of July. Anybody interested?
