pirates and snow

Tyler has been working for 2 months on his school performance
The excitement could hardly be contained when he was cast as yellow beard
in translation he mentioned it more than once!
He gave up his recess to work on his part at school
and the last week of school before break the 4th graders presented
A Pirate Christmas

Mom failed here on the beard
we tried yellow face paint
didn't work so well
Should have tried to make a beard like good old blue beard here
Oh well
Tyler loved his costume!

That night the snow began
I woke up early to check about school
first an hour delay
than a 2 hour delay
than SNOW DAY
so our winter break began a day early
I got up and took some pictures before the kids ran through it!
It's only about 4 inches but around here that closes the town down

MOM THERE IS SNOW!!!
she did not remember the last time it snowed
that was nearly 2 years ago and she didn't like it then
She jumped back in her bed to be warm!
that was my reaction too!
Eventually they all woke up
and I told them they should go play before it melts!

 SNOW MAN!

it had to be a girl snowman
and the beginnings of a snow fort

They borrowed some sled from the neighbor and headed to the park
it was a great kick off to our Christmas vacation!!
I will tell you the truth and tell you how grateful I was for the boys
they took such great care of Grace
they played with her and helped her with her snowman
it was awesome!

just a day of island life

Sometimes I remember I'm totally spoiled and live in one of the most beautiful places

in the winter
morning is very late
this was as I we were loading the car to take the kids to school
good morning moon
about 8:00 am

when I took Grace to preschool I was surprised to discover they moved up her field trip a day
so I changed my plans and went
turned out to be one of the best field trip I've ever been on
here we are waiting for the horse drawn carriage!

we rode through an 80 year old holly orchard
with carolers dressed in your typical Dickens attire singing and leading us in carols

loved this barn
I want one
not sure what I would do with a barn
but its the perfect color!

we watched them make a wreath
they sell them locally but they also ship them all over
it was fascinating to me
I keep thinking I've missed my calling in life I should be a holly farmer!!

I love orchards
I'm sure its because of my grandpa
even though these were holly trees not walnut trees I still felt like I was home at my grandpas!

later after school
did I mention days are short up north  here?
this is about 4:30
we stopped by the library
the harbor was AMAZING!!
I'm not sure I've ever seen it so beautiful before
these pictures don't do it justice
I didn't have my camera so these are from my phone

What an amazingly beautiful 8 hours it was!!

Friday

WOW!
another week has gone by and its already Friday
I can't believe it
I can't keep up
and we are trying so hard to have a relaxing season
is there such a thing?

around here boys are getting ready for their Christmas recital!
my favorite!
love all the Christmas music

they are playing a duet together!

Ah George
what a good dog!

Winter roasting

Jared started this roaring fire
The boys found these JUMBO marshmallows and had to try them out
 yummy!
s'mores in December

Alex told me I had to put this picture on the blog
It's cool!

I didn't stay by the fire long
or at all
took the pictures and went back in
too cold for me
but everyone else loved it
and I loved the quiet inside
everyone happy!
