George

SO this is George. Faithful old George. He has truly been a wonderful dog and I have had my share of dogs. He has been part of our family for over 10 years. So faithfully today I took him to the vet for his annual check up. Where a clean bill of health was delivered, except.... for his teeth. At which point the vet continues to explain to me all the horrible things that will happen to my dog if I do not take better care of said teeth. Then expands by mentioning ever so slightly that it is a mere $250.00 for his dental exam (more if he needs oral surgery). Somehow I managed to stop my mouth from gaping open. And politely replied "I'll have to get back to you on that". Now really, there is so much I could spend the money on. The list happens to be endless. So I ask, do people really spend that much on dogs teeth? Oh yeah did I mention, this is suppose to happen yearly.

I can't believe you didn't know this already Linda. Isn't your dad a dentist?

You need to yell at him to brush his teeth every night like I do to Travis.

That is a lot of money! Maybe you can add him to your dental plan.

I got the same advice for Shasta on Tuesday! I bet fell over when he told me how much. I did find a vet that does it for a little cheaper.

Wow. I'd heard that vet bills can be large, but wow, that's more than my visit! Poor George. Has he been gettin' a little candy on the side somewhere? :)

Yeah...good luck with that! We don't take very good care of Panion's teeth either. Perhaps we should start doing something about it, but at $250, probably not right now!

They told me that about Zeke once. I think he was like 2. Nonetheless, I really asked the tech lady if she was serious and I laughed. Never once have I brushed my dogs teeth, and I have had my fair share of dogs.

We got our cat's teeth cleaned when we got him. He had a couple that were really bad and had to have them pulled. It ended up being really expensive, but he was much happier after! One of our dogs needs her teeth cleaned and we'll probably do it sometime this year. We definitely don't do it yearly though!

I don't think people do and that is why dogs' breath stink so badly, in general. You just talked me out of getting a dog! I can barely pay dental bills for my children.

wow I am a bad dog owner because they told us that with Gunner and I basically laughed.

You can brush your dogs teeth yourself...at least they'll look clean next time you take George to the vet. :)

What!? Yearly!? Wow. That's quite the doggie dental bill! Not that I was the REAL person incharge of our family dog, but I don't ever remember taking our dog for a dental appointment when I was a kid!
