"TRI"ing

Those of you that know Eric might say he is just a little bit competitive
Or a lot!
After over a year off
he is back training for triathlons!
He loves them and I love that does them.
So we are both happy!
This past weekend he convinced 2 of his buddies to participate in the Lake Padden Tri
the glamorous before photo with Brett and Mike
the seals waiting to begin
he is in there somewhere
 the fan club!
 The race started
Eric was so fast in the water (5 minutes I don't know how far the swim was)
but he was so fast I didn't have time to corral the kids from the start to the finish and still get a good picture
so there he goes.....
the fans waiting for the bikers
here he comes
now this is where it gets interesting
after about 30 minutes in knew something went wrong
Eric is a FAST biker
I learned later that he was racing along, zooming by others seemingly standing still when
Kathunk!!!!
something broke
NOT GOOD
bike repair
back on the road and then
Repeat
more bike repair
REALLY NOT GOOD
Now bummed out, demoralized as he put it,  he still had his run to do
finishing the run!
the fans await the return of their dad!

 Finished
hand covered in grease and blood from ripping out his chain
So he finished in about an 1hour and 10 minutes (give or take) I don't have the exact time
I think he did great!
He was a little upset
thinking of what might have been
he was something like 37th
But as his son cheerfully said
"dad you finished in front of like 200+ people!"
So Eric we love you and are so proud of you!
Congratulations!!!
We think you are awesome!!

Jeff does some sprint tri's too. His chain broke last year and he was way frustrated. The bike is his favorite leg. Crazy that it can be fine all through training and then brake on the big day.
