I don't think I am ready!

The world of cub scouts is upon me and I am SO not ready. Jared will soon be 8 years old (also something I am not ready for). He was invited to participate in 2 major cub events the Blue and Gold Banquet and The Pine Wood Derby. We have not been able to calm Jared down in a month. He is just too excited. All the boys got to race a pine wood derby car. Jared was thrilled to finish 3rd in the cub scout race. Alex placed 1st in the sibling race and 1st overall and Tyler's car came in 3rd among the siblings. Someone asked us how the Johnston cars all did so well. Are secret..... We let the boys do it themselves. Eric helped cut out the cars, but they drew the shapes, sanded, painted and placed weights all by themselves.

Look at all those boys! My boy looks so little.

The genius kit. The boys were all given a bag full of .....well... junk and asked to create a thing that reminded them of a State or a way to travel between States. Jared chose to make the airplane that we flew to California in. He did it all by himself (actually I offered to help and was told he could do it himself). What is really amazing to me is that he didn't use any glue or adhesive. He peeled the fuzz off of the pipe cleaners in his bag and wired the 30 pieces together.

St. Patricks Day!

Traditions are a funny a thing. One year I decided to celebrated St. Patrick's Day thinking it would make a fun day. It was back in the day when all 3 boys were home all day and I did a kind of home preschool for Jared and Alex. And what a great day to celebrate green! So everything that day became green. We also decided to leave something for the leprechauns to see if they would change it into gold. The kids loved it so much that they want to do it every year! I nearly forgot this year but luckily my friend reminded me so I was prepared when Jared came running home wanting to put the stuff out for the leprechauns. He had found a 4 leaf clover! I had actually never even seen one before but he found one at the bus stop. He was thrilled! And he knew that it would bring him luck. This is what the leprechauns brought us this morning. A basket full of gold (Rolos, Reeces peanut butter cups, etc.)!

So answer me this. This is about my middle Alex. How can be very doubtful at 6 that there is a Santa Claus and know for a fact that leprechauns are real?

SHH DON'T TELL ANYONE!!!

She Who Must Be Obeyed would probably kill me if she found out I was doing this so make sure you don't tell anyone.

Unfortunately for the Johnston Man Clan the technician was unable to find any "boy parts" in today's ultrasound. This of course is a major calamity in this bastion of testosterone. None us are really too sure what to do. The doctor was of no hope at all declaring that there is a 95% chance that the baby's lack of "boy parts" is chronic and that despite of some promising research there is no cure covered by our insurance carrier.

There was a motion forwarded by one of the clan to request a do-over, however, the great and fearless mother goddess of the Johnston Man Clan rejected those seditious murmurings. The mother goddess declared that all would be well and that the child lacking in "boy parts" would be most welcome into the clan. The desire for food overcame any further objections from the junior clan members.

Oh well, the junior clan members have resigned themselves to the fact (contrary to Jefferson's stipulation) that not all men are created equal and that we are just going to have to get along with one of those other members of the homo sapien species that have no "boy parts."
