"Adventures with Eric" tend to be exactly that... Adventures. The usual start for these extracurricular activities sounds something like this.
Q: "What did you have planned for Thursday"
A: " Nothing really, what did you want to do"
Response: "Nothing..."
It sounds a lot like the scene in the Jungle Book where the vultures banter about sounding like the Beatles trying to find something to do before finally giving up and going to try and eat Mogli.
In any case we eventually roll out of the house and then discover that it is lunch time and nobody packed anything to eat. Did I mention the lively discussion on whether or not it is cold enough to bring coats or not? It seems fairly obvious to those over the age of thirty but than again the rule of "no shorts past the first of November" seems to have a hard time settling in this year.
We eventually made it up to Bellingham and found a trail head off of Old Samish Road. I had stopped there while on a bike ride once and wanted to explore. Having no idea where the trail went we were off. We dropped down onto the creek and found it full of migrating salmon who after recently thrashing their way up the creek and meeting the measure of their creature were set up on by a herd of backpackus selfpropelli (see previous post) and a solitary caninus familius. In short order there were a couple of newly expired salmon, wet feet and even wetter jeans.
After chasing the big fish around for a while we continued down the Interurban trail for a mile or two and had a great day.
By the way, Boomer's Drive In in Bellingham has great milkshakes and awesome waffle fries.
P.S.
President Dixon talked this weekend about how he could not buy happiness at Home Depot, Walmart or even Super Walmart. Well for what it is worth I think he is shopping at the wrong store.
Actually he is right lasting happiness does not come by buying things it comes by spending a wet rainy day with your family next to a salmon creek and by spending 8 hours with your wife at Saturday's stake conference.
On the other hand if somebody was willing to act as my underwriter I would certainly be willing to try buying happiness at Ripoff Everyone Incorporated.
