a very common complaint of summer.

my response...

what do you want to do?.......

Make a blackberry pie

OK not what I thought he'd say.

I was thinking play a game, watch a movie.

Those answers I was prepared for.

Make a pie.... I wasn't. 

But in one of my better parenting moments.

We did. 

make pie crust!

while crust is refrigerating
Pick the blackberries!

my regular rolling pin has seen better days and leaves these weird black flakes so we tossed it
we had to make do


Love that look of determination!

we took those berries, sugar, lemon juice, etc...
plopped them into the crust and made a beautiful lattice top!

 OK i did help with that part.

baked it!
while it was sitting nicely cooling I ran some errands.




When I came home.....

half the pie was "missing"


WHO ate it?


DAD! with help.


Don't they know pie is better the second day?
It was a fun project. 
Jared was thrilled with his skills 
and we all loved the pie!
